This qualification will allow learners to develop their knowledge and skills in Life-threatening/Catastrophic Bleeding Control to meet the needs of their role in work, or another setting, and allows progression into further first aid training. In addition, this particularly detailed session is for those employers who are at ‘high risk’ in respect of their work activity and is certainly not a standard part of the FAW (First Aid at Work) or eFAW (emergency First Aid at Work) training.
Learners gaining this qualification understand the changed that have been brought in by the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) in October 2015 in respect of dealing with life-threatening/Catastrophic bleeding.
Topics include:
• The roles and responsibilities of the first aider.
• Equipment used.
• Primary survey.
• Life-threatening/Catastrophic bleeding
• Haemostatic dressings.
• Torniquets.
• Top to Toe survey.
• Environmental issues
In line with industry guidance, it is recommended that the learner re sits the course again after 3 years.
